Prof. Anthony Pillay, President of the Psychological Society of South Africa – PsySSA, and Psy. Claudia María Sanín, President of the Colombian College of Psychologists – COLPSIC, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 29 during the 31st International Congress of Psychology – ICP 2016 in Yokohama, Japan.
COLPSIC is the organization that represents the professional interests of Colombian psychologists, serves as an advocacy organization among state agencies and the Government of Colombia, as well as to other national and international bodies. The two organizations share mutual objectives towards the enhancement of psychology as a science and as a profession in their own countries and regionally.
The signing of this MoU is expected to enhance the interaction not only between these two countries, but to promote an understanding between two regions, Africa and Latin America, that do not often exchange their ideas and solutions to common problems.
The formalization of the agreement will initiate processes of mutual collaboration and cooperation regarding areas of psychological relevance, the public interest and joint concerns. Some initial exchanges are thought to be on common social issues, the role of psychology in peace building and post conflict recovery, the contributions of psychology to environmental and nature management and health care, among others.
