Division Exec Members have been part of and offered a number of workshops related to sexual and gender topics and interests. Casey Blake was invited by the University of the Witwatersrand to run a workshop on Menstrual Hygiene with a team of young women researchers (April 26th).
Peace Kiguwa and Pierre Brouard were part of an invited panel exploring the Intersections of Race, Gender and Sexuality at the University of Pretoria (April 11). Peace Kiguwa also hosted a Regional Workshop on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, in partnership with the African Gender Institute (April 12-14). Pierre Brouard gave a presentation on masculinities at the Advanced Human Rights Short Course on Women’s Rights in Africa, 26 – 29 March, for the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria, and ran a workshop on LGBTIQA+ issues for the Young African Leadership Initiative on 20 April.We welcome Boitumelo Diale and Diana de Sousa PsySSA Executive Members and Muhammed Yaeesh Cassim, representing the Student Division to the Division.
On the 19th April, the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA) under the leadership of the Sexuality and Gender Division (SGD) launched the first-ever South African practice guidelines for psychology professionals working with sexually and gender-diverse people. The launch was very well-attended and was hosted at the Johannesburg Holocaust Museum. Co-Core member behind the Guidelines and SGD Exec Member, Niel Victor talked the audience through the Guidelines and answered questions. The Keynote was delivered by Prof Mzikazi Nduna from Wits University.
