PsySSA would like to congratulate Brett Bowman for being promoted to full professor recently. As the previous Editor of PsyTalk we would like extend our best wishes to him and to those colleagues who are quick to ‘claim’ this achievement as their own. You truly deserve this accolade. His primary research focuses on the prevention of crime, violence and injury with a focus on identifying the socio-economic and socio-demographic risk factors for vulnerability and resilience to violence and injuries. His more critical interests include the history of the social sciences, race, racism and other related social asymmetries and include macro-level analyses of the historical and contemporary interfaces between the South African sciences and the society in which they are embedded.
Brett Bowman holds a PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand. Prior to joining Wits in 2007, he worked as a researcher-practitioner at the University of South Africa’s Institute for Social and Health Sciences (ISHS) for 6 years. During this time his research was aligned to the national violence and injury prevention objectives of the Crime, Violence and Injury Lead Programme (CVILP) co-directed by the ISHS and the South African Medical Research Council.
